Passaic County Holds Computer & Electronics Recycling Event and Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale

PASSAIC COUNTY TO HOLD COMPOST BIN & RAIN BARREL SALE

On Saturday, May 21, 2016 the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs will be sponsoring a Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale and Education Program at the Clifton City Hall Complex, 900 Clifton Avenue at Dog Pound Road, in Clifton, N.J. from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, rain or shine.
“Composting is nature’s way of recycling, turning all your vegetative kitchen scraps, coffee grinds, tea bags, grass clippings, brown leaves and dead garden plants into rich organic compost,” according to Nina Seiden, Passaic County’s Solid Waste & Recycling Programs Manager. “This compost can be used in your vegetable and/or flower gardens while keeping all of the unwanted waste material out of the landfill.”
The renowned Earth Machine Compost Bin will be available for purchase at a special price of $55, cash or check including tax (retail value of $100) while supplies last. Additional composting accessory items for purchase include kitchen scrap buckets,
aerators, chicken-wire style holding bins, and more. Those reserving a compost bin for purchase by May 18, 2016 will receive one free kitchen scrap bucket per household.
Rain Barrels may also be purchased for $75. They come complete with accessory pieces to connect to your downspout, and with a mosquito screen to prohibit breeding of disease-carrying larvae. Educational seminars on composting, as well as how to utilize a rain barrel effectively to conserve water will be held throughout the event. To reserve your compost bin and/or rain barrel to guarantee their availability the day of the event, please call the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs at (973) 305-5738 and give your name, phone number and number of compost bins/rain barrels to be purchased.

PASSAIC COUNTY ANNOUNCES COMPUTER & ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT

The Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs will be conducting its next Computer & Electronics Recycling Collection Event on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th, 2016 from 9 am to 2 pm, rain or shine at the Passaic County Para-Transit Facility, 1310 Route 23 North in Wayne (behind Ski Barn).
Almost all types of computer and electronic equipment will be accepted at this 2-day event, including monitors, hard drives, printers, keyboards, modems, copier and fax machines, televisions, radios, VCRs, stereo systems, CD players, DVD players, cell phones and old telephone systems, according to Nina Seiden, Passaic County’s Solid Waste & Recycling Programs Manager. The County also accepts used inkjet and laser toner cartridges, unwanted VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMS, video games, computer games, and floppy disks.
“Passaic County residents and businesses continue to show their support for recycling these items into other useful products, which keeps them out of our diminishing landfill space and prohibits a variety of toxins, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium from entering our groundwater. Residents and businesses also need to be aware that it’s the law in New Jersey,” Seiden said. “TVs and computer equipment cannot be thrown away in the regular garbage. It must be recycled.”
The event is free for residents. Businesses must pre-register. For further information, please call the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs at (973) 305-5738. Recycling services provided by Advanced Recovery of Newark, N.J. and Port Jervis, N.Y.
