Freeholders honor and recognize the Mexican Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS our Nation is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15, 2016 through October 15, 2016 and in recognition of the outstanding achievements and contributions made by many exceptional Hispanics over the years, the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Passaic deems it fitting and appropriate, at this time, to honor and recognize the Mexican Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS the Mexican Chamber of Commerce was established in 2006, it emerged in response to a need for business owners of Mexican heritage in the City of Passaic to come together, its original members, who were all distributors of Mexican products, did not have any specific space to meet and coordinate efforts and initiatives to expand their businesses and advance opportunities for greater commerce as well as build up and support the Mexican community in general and at the suggestion of the Mayor and administration of the City of Passaic the chamber was formed; and
WHEREAS the current Executive Members of the Mexican Chamber of Commerce are Ray Carrera, Genaro Delgado, Ezequiel Camacho, Pedro Sanchez, Majin Zuniga, Carlos Zuniga, Gabriela Perez, Miguel Martinez, Juan Guzman and Nicolas Aguilar; and
WHEREAS the Mexican Chamber of Commerce stands today as the key location and connecting point for all the Mexican business owners, distributers, and community commercial leaders in the community who find themselves desiring and in need of space to distribute, expand, share, and preserve the traditions of the rich Mexican culture through foods and other commercial and cultural products; and
WHEREAS the original intent for forming the Mexican Chamber of Commerce continues with the same goal of providing a positive and productive organization that would be able to effectively address the community and commercial concerns of the Mexican community in the City of Passaic and neighboring municipalities as a united force rather than segmented individuals; and
WHEREAS among the most important community initiatives that the Mexican Chamber of Commerce has accomplished as a united organization are the construction of the Chapel located in 13-87 of Madison Street in the City of Passaic where the traditional “mañanitas” or songs sung to the Virgin of Guadalupe occur every year, the realization of an annual flea market where cultural festivals take place in the streets, traditional “Posadas” festivals where families and friends in the tradition of Mary and Joseph go from house to house seeking shelter as those who participate sing in and outside of the many homes in the community, the annual Gala dinner which commemorates the cry of Independence of Mexico, where every Passaic business owner is invited to join along with the Mexican Business community along with various leaders and community members who are recognized for their commitments to support the Mexican community to celebrate not only its culture but also the overall contributions of the community in the City and around the Nation; and
WHEREAS this year marks the ten year anniversary of the creation of the chamber and the chamber is proud to have grown as a community, as business owners, families, community members and overall as a united chamber, becoming the largest commercial strength in the City of Passaic and expanding its presence greatly in the Tri-State area for all of Mexican heritage;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Passaic publicly honors and recognizes the Mexican Chamber of Commerce for its many years of work and service in bringing greater education, culture and information to the Passaic County Hispanic and Latino communities.
