(Totowa, NJ) - Across Passaic County, older Americans – a rapidly growing population – are taking part in activities that promote wellness and social connection. They are sharing their wisdom and experience with future generations, and they are giving back to enrich their communities. They’re working and volunteering, mentoring and learning, leading and engaging.
On May 4th & May 7th the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders in conjunction with the Department of Senior Services is sponsoring – “SENIOR EXTRAVAGANZA 2018”! This May, the Passaic County Office on Aging is leading our County’s observance of Older American’s Month. We are pleased to announce the 2018 theme, Engage at Every Age, which emphasizes that you are never too old (or too young) to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental and emotional well-being and celebrates the many ways older adults make a difference in our communities.
“This year, in recognition of Older Americans Month, the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders will be sponsoring a Health & Resource Fair called Senior Extravaganza,” said Freeholder Director Sandi Lazzara. “This event is open to the public, and designed to provide and highlight the county services that provide critical assistance to our most vulnerable residents.”
“SENIOR EXTRAVAGANZA 2018” - a wide variety of community vendors and county departments will gather to promote general health by providing screening, presentations and educational materials. The goal of the Health Fair Extravaganza is to provide a collective forum of information in an effort to foster health promotion and prevention awareness for the seniors, their caregivers, and community members so that they may achieve their highest level of wellness. "Health is not just the absence of disease... it is the complete physical, mental and social well-being." Freeholder Director Lazzara said.
The Passaic County Senior Extravaganza Health & Resource Fair will promote mental and physical wellness, offering information and experience. There are a host of county programs and services available to our seniors; we wish to pass that information along to our seniors who are looking for assistance. In addition to the seniors are their caregivers, whether you’re just beginning to anticipate a need or taking care of a family member full-time, this health & resource extravaganza will be a guide to all the services available to you as a caregiver as well.
Senior Extravaganza 2018 is a practical tool to make the process easier for both you and your loved one. It includes advice, resources and checklists to help you as an older American or as a caregiver to get organized and find support on your caregiving journey.
