County government serves as the middle layer of government between the federal and state governments and the municipalities.  Passaic County is governed by a seven-member Board of County Commissioners.  Each County Commissioner is elected at large for a three-year term.  The board is headed by a director, who is selected for a one-year term at the board's annual reorganization meeting (at the first meeting of the year in January).  Under Passaic County's commission form of government, County Commissioners discharge both executive and legislative responsibilities.

Reorganization Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners

TAKE NOTICE: the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners on December 12, 2023, adopted Resolution R-23-1128, which calls for the Reorganization Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, to be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 12:00 PM, in compliance with N.J.S.A. 10:4-1, et seq.  The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners will hold their Reorganizational Meeting in the Administration Building located at 401 Grand Street, 2nd Floor, Paterson, New Jersey 07505.  Official action will be taken.  This notice is Pursuant to “Open Public Meetings Act” P.L. 1975, Chapter 231, NJSA 10:4-6 et seq.

Please note: There will be a 2024 Ceremonial Organizational Meeting/ Swearing-In Ceremony held on January 3, 2024, at 5:30 PM at Passaic County Technical-Vocational Schools, 45 Reinhart Road, Wayne, New Jersey 07470.
