The County of Passaic sponsors the Passaic County Brownfields Commission, focusing on the redevelopment of brownfield sites throughout the County and providing direct technical assistance to property owners, developers, and municipalities in the identification of the tools, techniques, and grants available for environmental remediation. The Commission meets three times per year and provides information on current environmental remediation techniques and funding.

In addition, the County of Passaic has utilized a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency of $400,000 to inventory and assess sites contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants within Passaic County. The USEPA grant enabled the County of Passaic to inventory brownfield sites, perform environmental assessments and assist all sixteen Passaic County municipalities in the redevelopment of contaminated sites.
