The Passaic County Clerk's Office is pleased to provide an in-house Trade Name Registration service for Passaic County sole proprietorship and general partnership businesses.

Certificate of Trade Name Application

Fee is $50.00 payable in cash or money order paid to “Passaic County Clerk.”

1.Call 973-225-3690 to check the availability of your Business Trade Name at the County Clerk's Office.

2. Fill out the Certificate of Trade Name application. Be sure the application is printed neat and complete. The application will be rejected if it is deemed illegible by our office.

3. The application must be notarized.

The County Clerk’s Office can notarize the Trade Name application at the time of filing for an additional $3.00. The following will be required:

• Identification: driver’s license or US Passport
• All parties involved must be present

4. You will receive a business certificate and recorded copy of the trade name, which your bank may require to open a business account. The County Clerk’s Office will keep the original and send a copy to the Secretary of State.

5. You must also register your business for tax purposes with the State of New Jersey, Division of Taxation in Trenton.

A Dissolution Form should be filed with the County Clerk's Office when a Business Trade Name is no longer in operation.

Trade Name Dissolution Application

Fee is $25.00 payable in cash or money order paid to “Passaic County Clerk.”

1. Download and fill out the Trade Name Dissolution application. Be sure the application is printed neat and complete. The application will be rejected if it is deemed illegible by our office.

2. The application must be notarized.

The County Clerk’s Office can notarize the Trade Name application at the time of filing for an additional $3.00. The following will be required:

• Identification: driver’s license or US Passport
• All parties involved must be present

 3. You will receive a recorded copy of the Trade Name Dissolution. The County Clerk’s Office will keep the original and send a copy to the Secretary of State.

A Change of Address Form should be filed with the County Clerk's Office when a Business Trade Name address changes to a new location within Passaic County.

2. The application must be notarized.
