Qualifications for Board Workers
- Must be registered to vote in the County of Passaic
- Must be able to read write and speak the English language
- Must be able to do simple arithmetic
- Must be able to work a full day. No half day schedules
Training Requirements
- All new board workers must attend training administered by the County Board of Elections.
- All district board members must attend training sessions at least once every two years. However, when new laws are introduced, mandatory training will be required of district board members.
- Class is two hours long.
- You must stay and be attentive for the whole class.

Training class will include the following
- Voting Machine Operation (Open, Activate and Close)
- Each board worker will demonstrate the ability to find a voter’s name in the registration poll book.
- Election Day procedures that must be followed by all board workers.
- Board worker objectives.
- Board worker performance appraisals.
- A board worker manual will be supplied to each worker.
Application Procedure
- Print and complete the Board Worker Application.
- Return the application to the Board of Elections office.
- If you are selected to work, you will be informed of your mandatory training class by mailed postcard.
- After completing the training, you will receive an assignment letter indicating the district and location you will be working.
Hours & Rate of pay for a Primary or General Election
- Start 5:00 AM End around 8:15 to 8:30 PM
- $300.00 for the full day
- A district board member who is responsible for bringing supplies to the district shall receive an additional $12.50 per election. If that responsibility is shared between two board members, each member shall receive $6.25 per election.
- A district board member who is responsible for returning supplies to the municipal clerk office at the end of the election shall receive an additional $12.50 per election. If that responsibility is shared between two board members, each member shall receive $6.25 per election
Hours & Rate of pay for a School Election
- Hours and rate of pay vary per municipality.
- If you are interested in working, you will be informed prior to the election.
