Home Energy & Weatherization

Passaic County offers extensive energy conservation programs designed to help low-income households make energy bills more affordable. These include four programs:

  • Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
  • Heating Improvement Program (HIP)
  • Home Energy Assistance (HEA)
  • Universal Service Fund (USF)

The Passaic County Weatherization Assistance Program is the county's core program intended to reduce energy costs to low-income persons by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. County-wide, weatherization benefits low-income households and communities and generates an average energy cost savings of $300-$500 per home each year. Professionally trained weatherization crews perform on-site home energy audits using state of the art equipment to identify outside drafts and inspect heating and cooling systems for efficiency. Weatherization crews install insulation, seal off air leaks, make modifications to (or replace) existing heating systems and make minor repairs to ensure safety. Once installed, these energy-saving measures help to reduce heating and cooling costs for years to come.

The Home Energy Assistance Program administers the LIHEAP and USF benefits. The Home Energy Assistance Program is designed to help low-income households make energy bills more affordable. Eligible households that are having difficulty paying their electric, natural gas, oil, and other deliverable fuel bills can contact this office for a financial assistance application.
