Keyboard Clerk 4/Special Probate Clerk | Surrogate Court

The Special Probate Clerk may exercise the same powers as the Surrogate, which includes taking depositions of witnesses to wills, qualifying executors and administrators, appears in Superior Court on probate matters, accepts trusteeships and guardianships, as well as administers the oaths of appointment. Special Probate Clerk will review applications of adoption and will work with attorneys to ensure court filings comply with New Jersey adoption statutes and court rules.  Examples of work include reviewing Court pleadings, replying to attorneys, and researching legal matters for the Surrogate.  

 

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree; law degree preferred.  

Experience: 

  • Experience reviewing Court pleadings and researching legal matters. 
  • Proficient or at minimum working knowledge of NJSA Title 3B and New Jersey Court Rules.  Candidate must have experience deposing witnesses and have sufficient knowledge of the Title 3B to qualify executors and administrators, as well as the knowledge of the standards to accept trusteeships and guardianships.
  • The Candidate must have experience reviewing court pleadings and proofs. 
  • Candidate must be capable of determining compliance with the court rules and relevant New Jersey statues. 

License: A driver's license valid in the State of New Jersey is required.
